You probably already know that many fabulous wineries and tasting rooms can be found in Washington County and the Willamette Valley. But, recently, I was pleasantly surprised to discover how many wonderful tasting rooms there are in downtown Hood River, about 60 miles east of Portland in the Columbia River Gorge.

I haven’t spent much time in downtown Hood River, and I loved how walkable everything was. I planned this excursion for a couple of friends who were visiting from out of town. If I can plan a successful trip, so can you — or just use my list as a starting point.

We parked in a public lot across from the Full Sail Tasting Room & Pub and walked to these four tasting rooms:

Each place was great, with friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the prices were fantastic: each flight, which included several samples, was under $10. We tasted many delicious wines, but the green apple flavors of the Cerulean 2010 Pinot Gris were a big hit with all of us.

We had a wonderful day, and the drive was gorgeous, so if you’re looking for something new to do, I recommend heading to Hood River.
