Even Portland Babies Rock
June 5th, 2012
With the lineup for MFNW just out, concerts are a hot topic around town, but who knew it would be so easy to pass our love of live shows down to our children? Gone are the days when the little ones only listened to classical music or sang along to standards like “Baa Baa Black Sheep” and “Baby Beluga.” Now events like the national Baby Loves Disco tour and the local You Who shows and venues like the OregonZoo, Edgefield and more have kids shakin’ their sillies out like most of us were just never allowed to.
Baby Loves Disco returns to town with two shows this month (free show at Clackamas Town Center on Friday, June 8; fundraiser benefiting Neighborhood House at the Crystal Ballroom on Saturday, June 9). The You Who children’s rock variety show entertains kids at the Kennedy School throughout the year. Other ongoing shows include weekly music (and spelling bees!) at Mississippi Pizza; free summer concerts in parks throughout the city; and national acts at the Oregon Zoo and the Edgefield lawn, where kids and babies take in the likes of Wilco, Willie Nelson, Norah Jones, The Avett Brothers and more alongside their parents each summer.
