Summertime Meadows

Horse racing in Portland has for the past several years been a winter activity, and has usually been scheduled to occur when most people are at work. That changes this summer — Portland Meadows has just begun a long season of weekend and evening races.

Though racing is not everyone’s cup of tea, I have found Meadows to be surprisingly family friendly, and the prospect of being able to picnic out at the races on a pleasant summer evening appeals greatly. Plus it’s free to get in, so unless you’re of a gambling disposition, it’s an inexpensive day out.
