Tressia Gehrke
Hi, I'm Tress, Travel Portland's Online Marketing Manager. Originally born and raised on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, I came to Oregon to go to college.
In 1993, I transferred to Portland and simply never went back to Alaska, even though I still consider it home to this day. So I guess you can say I have two homes -- one where I grew up and one where I live now.
Portland has such a variety of things to offer -- adventures in dining, shopping, outdoors and more. I'll be taking you to the different areas that I regularly hang out at as well as some new ones that I find along the way. You can also find me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/PortlandTress. Feel free to follow me and say hello!

Ramen. Most of us know it as that stuff we survived on in college. I’m here to tell you that we’ve been wronged by that stuff and I have proof. Meet The Ramen Truck. Located on S.E. 33rd off of Hawthorne, you’ll find this pale yellow truck tucked away in an alley. They make their [...]

Portlanders love food and we’re very fond of breakfast. Instead of pondering why, I accept and embrace it. And with so many great breakfast options, I’d like to share one of my favorite weekend spots with you, which also happens to be a food cart. The Big Egg at the Mississippi Marketplace pod in north [...]

Earning accolades like “world’s best street food” from U.S. News Travel, Portland’s food cart scene is becoming very well-known. But did you know that we have an annual food cart festival? Eat Mobile features samples from some of the city’s best carts along with live music and some friendly competition — carts vie for awards [...]

You probably already know that many fabulous wineries and tasting rooms can be found in Washington County and the Willamette Valley. But, recently, I was pleasantly surprised to discover how many wonderful tasting rooms there are in downtown Hood River, about 60 miles east of Portland in the Columbia River Gorge. I haven’t spent much [...]

If you’ve snapped some great pictures in Portland this year, you might have already taken the Photo of the Year. Friends of Outdoor School’s 10th annual Photo of the Year Contest is going on now. You don’t have to be a professional photographer to enter — it only takes one picture to win, and it [...]

IFC’s show all about Portland, “Portlandia,” is gearing up for its second season, which starts on Jan. 6. They’ve been releasing some new video clips and this one in particular tickled my funny bone. While we are passionate about recycling, I’m not quite sure that the real city is ready for this level of detail. [...]

I recently participated in Ladies Rock Camp, a program of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls that’s held twice a year. This three-day event is unlike anything I’ve ever done before. You sign up to either learn or improve your skills on the instrument of your choice — drums, guitar, bass, keyboard or vocals. [...]

In case you haven’t heard, we’re pretty creative in Portland. Whether it’s functional, pretty or both, we like to make it ourselves. That DIY ethic means that shopping for gifts is a special treat here. Crafty Wonderland’s regular group sales have been wildly popular for years, but now you don’t have to wait. Crafty Wonderland is opening a [...]

Portland continues to flex its foodie muscles, appearing in my Twitter and Facebook feeds more frequently lately. I love living in such a tasty city. Here are a few recent mentions in case you’re wondering what you’re missing. Food & Wine magazine named Portland one of the best places in the world to eat and [...]
